My dear Edwards' and Co:
Thanks for many, -- and for money orders for Christmas and my two birthdays the same week.
If the defeat of France in June marked the end of Hitler's power to hurt men, you can see the breaking of Italy is like the same thing, and clearing the way for Germany and Great Britain and America to fulfill what is written for the second Woe in Revelation IX: 12-21. It will be a life and death struggle for Germany and no room for doubt as to the ending of Hitler and Co. Japan has been very cheeky [the] past few days to [the] U.S.A., while Rumania is being crammed with troops, while England, Turkey and Greece are solid to oppose any move Eastward; while Russia promises aid to Turkey, but not to declare war. So we may look for the Euphrates to come into the picture.
If the breaking of France was pitiful, the same may be said of Italy and her attempts in Libya and East Africa as well as Albania. Two million French prisoners in Frace, and about two hundred thousand Italian prisoners and [sic] are out of action, weather having been very severe. Air, Sea [sic] and land operations have out-generaled and out-fought Italy on every possible front, in spite of preparation over five years and ten years, -- probably indication of which side God is on.
Was thinking today about Abram finding a Ram in the bush to take Isaac's place on the altar, -- only a hint that the place had no buildings such as now cover the Temple area, and Jerusalem and Palestine as a whole. That offering was accepted. What about all the offerings made in temples made with men's hands? Natural stones were the altar which Elijah used on Mt. Carmel, while the Prophets of Baal had "hewn" stones after their approved pattern, and no provision for the cold water as had Elijah, -- cold water is always plentiful on every altar and offering He ever accepts.
The twelve stones which formed the altar on which his sacrifice was made typifies [signifies] [the] twelve Apostles, all rough, unhewn, undressed by hands of men, and He one of the twelve, whom Judas had to kiss to identify Him from the other eleven. Cain with his beautiful vegetables, fruits of the earth, -- plenty to please the human senses; but fruit or flower, juice and scent is not blood which can only come from a higher kingdom, -- which gives us a cue to reading Isaiah 66 where they were in the garden behind one tree in the midst.

My dear Edwards & Co:
Thanks for many letters, all hearty and sensible. Every trial is like the lead which enables deeper soundings into the mysteries of God's eternal purpose, which all human vanities tend to obscure & obliterate, just as John's coming will tend to destroy the illusions and delusions God has put on men who delight in their own thoughts and abominations. The shadow of death in Jesus' life only caused Him to speak out truth for these days, as you will notice, especially near the end of His ministry. "Except ye eat my flesh, and drink my blood, ye have no life in you." -- sums up all He had ever taught His disciples; and you can see that the many had never opened the door to let His Spirit come in to dwell in them, which is the wide gate and broad way He spoke of, in contrast to the straight gate and narrow way of letting the Spirit of Christ come in to dwell and develop the same control they saw in Him in all He did and said.
Only as His Spirit is in us and allowed to grow up into full control, can we know God and become useful in helping others by our living words and example, and share in all that Jesus can be to us. The wide gate is to claim all He can be to us, and refuse to let Him in to sup or share in all we can be to God and man.
Paul said, "Follow me as I follow the Lord," which is very simple and easy to understand, and we can see how fully His true apostles did this, even to death, except John who is to finish his life work in his death, resurrection and ascension as in Revelation 11. This is the high calling of God in Christ Jesus, which Paul speaks of looking forward to as the prize. You can see how His disciples wanted Him to stay and escape the cross and resurrection. His rebuke to Peter, "Get thee behind me Satan; thou savorest not the things of God, but rather the human." His death and resurrection, -- all this for the apostles and disciples, and fitted them to pour out their lives to the death. Self-sacrifice in service to God and man is the lead and incentive by the Spirit of Christ and God.
"Meek and lowly" in heart in contrast to pride and wickedness. He measured His gains by His losses in men's eyes. His lowly twenty years as a carpenter in Nazareth was the preparation He had for the anointing He got when He was thirty--and is a warning and a pointer to the danger in following the path of success and privilege. Moses and Paul found that their so-called privileges made them murderers, and was for the curing of their pride. Moses spent forty years in unlearning what he got in Egypt. The choosing of His apostles bears the same marks, in their lowly calling, which saved them from the pride and wickedness of those in high places. Mal. 3:16-18 can be read in this sense, and gives us some idea of how He will get jewels of twelve different sorts for the fulfilling of Rev. 21. Fearing the Lord and thinking of His name.

My dear Edwards and Co:
Thanks for yours and many others. Rev. 1:7 is easy to understand now as we see the clouds over all the world - for nearly every one feels more or less War conditions; so it begins in seeing the seriousness of all taking place. In other days and wars, there were always many who only looked on, and even many who profited by conditions.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock” - which seems to point to the personal side of happenings to awake people to their personal side of world conditions. “If any man (anywhere), (whosoever), will hear My Voice." People may read and try to understand by reading what's written, but if they don't hear His Voice, they cannot read to get life, as we have seen and known for long time. What's written only becomes prophecy when the Voice guides them into true interpretation. He is THE Shepherd of the Sheep - and a Shepherd true is one through whom His Voice can be heard, to guide people into how to open the door, so that He by His Spirit can come in to share whatever is their lot - or be made partaker of the Christ Nature, and He share what is ours, 'right or wrong, and we to share His reproach and shame, as well as all His fullness to meet our needs, inside and outside.
If we walk in the Light as He is in the Light, not only in what He was, but in what He is today as King, and Judge of the earth, either to taste His mercy or wrath - we have fellowship with Him and He with us; AND the Blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, cleanseth us from all sin. This gives us the best idea of what His supping with us means, and our supping or sharing with Him what is His. He shares with us our weakness and stammering and blundering over weaknesses, and even our cowardice in using our opportunities, or letting Him use what we are and might be to others.
Our only hope and that of the people we meet is in letting Him control and speak living words by His voice that they may be resurrected to Life and live by that. Jesus said, "I am the Resurrection" (for all who are dead to Him in Adam) "and the Life" of all who are raised from death to life. If we are resurrected, we will live by Him in us. He that liveth thus, though he were dead, yet shall he live where they cry, "How long, O Lord, till thou avenge our blood on the whole earth" as they look forward to the 2nd Resurrection - which is only possible to those who have had the 1st Resurrection.
People would like to be what Jesus was to Lazarus, but far greater is it to be His Voice in resurrecting people from their grave in Adam that they may live on the earth, and be the means of saving some.
My love in Him,
Wm. Irvine
