After his release, Herman returned to preach in the Philippines, but left the work in 1951 for health reasons. After Herman left the ministry for health issues, he worked in Houston, Texas at a Children's Home. In December, 1955, he married Blanche Berry from Henderson, Texas. He then moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked for Avis Truck Rental Company until he retired in 1970. They adopted a daughter, Esther in 1962 at the age of 11 years; and a son, John, in 1964, at age 8. Herman died February 5, 2001, at the age of 93 and is buried in Dallas, Texas at Laurel Land Cemetery.
