Matilda Smeenk,
Born: July 11, 1899 in Worthing, South Dakota..
Died: September 16, 1982 at age 81.

She was in the work in Rotterdam at the time of the German bombing during World War II
and was interned as a United States citizen for 18 months,
first in Holland and later in a camp in Germany.

In March 1944, she was expatriated with more than
500 Americans on a Swedish refugee ship, the Gripsholm.
